As a result, you can bob and weave between the elements that comprise the neon-colored onslaught to evade fire and position yourself for retaliatory strikes-and the experience is absolutely thrilling. In fact, bullets and lasers can graze your ship's sprite and not register as a hit.
Your aircraft's hitbox, the area that causes the game to recognize collisions, is so small that it gives you the wiggle room to weave between the incoming gunfire. DoDonPachi will crush those who are unwilling to learn its surprisingly deep systems.ĭespite the tremendous challenge, however, DoDonPachi Resurrection isn't an unjust game. There are times when there are so many enemy bullets and lasers on screen, rushing toward you in colorful curtains and waves, that the mission appears overwhelming. Like Mushihimesama, DoDonPachi Resurrection is a vertically scrolling manic shmup that spews a ridiculous number of projectiles onto the battlefield. That said, the tale is a just a thin layer of frosting on a delicious cake that attempts to destroy you every time you take a bite. Though the narrative isn't particularly deep, I appreciate Cave's efforts to tell a tale that has a bit more substance than the vague one Treasure penned for Ikaruga. There's a lightweight story in place that involves your pilot time-traveling into the past to combat the invading forces, which results in not one, but two pleasing Twilight Zone-like endings, depending on your skill level and willingness to complete the game multiple times.
Angry Leader BeeĭoDonPachi Resurrection, like Cave's other shmup releases on Windows PCs, pits your lone fighter craft against a massive fleet of mechanized alien attack vehicles.
The $29.99 PC game's arrival was a long time coming, but it was unquestionably well worth the wait. Now, more than a decade after securing a spot as one of the all-time great arcade and console bullet-hell games, DoDonPachi Resurrection arrives on PC courtesy of Degica, the company that helped bring other Cave-developed shooters to Steam. Also, they do have easy modes for beginners.Androids and time travel play significant roles in both Dragon Ball Z and DoDonPachi Resurrection, but unlike the massively overrated Toei Animation-produced anime, this legendary shoot-'em-up surrounds those plot points with exquisitely designed action. Please don't hesitate to buy these if you have any interest in shooters. If the rumors are true and they don't make any more console games then at least I can hope that they continue making games for iOS. I can't praise them enough for these superb games. Cave nailed the controls and their games really do look and perform about the same as they do on my Xbox 360. There are other shmups on the App Store but most of them have virtual controls or similar touch but delayed a bit which ruins the gameplay experience.
I mostly play them on my iPad Air 2, but just in case they are also loaded on my iPhone 6 plus as well. They have truly mastered touch controls for these shmups and I have happily bought several of their games now for iOS. I just never found anything where touch controls worked.until cave brought their games to iOS that is. I'm a huge cave fan but have never been a fan of games on my iPhone or tablet.
